FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gothenburn, Sweden/EWORLDWIRE/January 29, 2003 --- Scandinavian Train operator Linx begins providing real-time broadband Internet access on- board a train between Gothenburg and Copenhagen. The new service will enable Linx business and standard class passengers, as well as staff to surf the Internet and check emails whilst travelling on-board their high-speed trains.
Linx's business idea is to run comfortable high-speed trains with a high service level between the Scandinavian capitals. Committed to this idea, Linx will introduce the new service offering passengers and personnel broadband Internet while on-board their trains. The new service provides passengers with the ability to get up to minute travel information, news, check emails and access entertainment services.
Icomera a Swedish based company has developed and delivered the revolutionary new wireless communication system to Linx. Michael Johansson, CEO of Icomera says, "The system is a total end-to end solution including all hardware, software and communication channels using satellite for broadband capacity and multiple GSM links in parallel for reliability. Passengers using the service simply connect to the wireless LAN network via their own laptops. The goal is to allow the customer to experience continuous Internet connectivity during their journey, making their travel time more effective. In this way Linx will be more competitive to other travel alternatives."
Managing Director of Linx, Reidar Jignéus says, "We are delighted with the wireless communication solution delivered by Icomera. The results from the tests conducted have exceeded our expectations. With more and more passengers using laptops and other personal devices on-board our trains, we believe that the timing and delivery of wireless Internet services to our passengers couldn't be better. This collaboration with Icomera delivers a world class service that will change the way people travel by train".
The new solution will also provide train personnel access to internal administration and online booking systems, making paper free ticketing possible. The trial period will be during the month of February between Gothenburg and Copenhagen. Based on technical and customer evaluations of the systems performance and the benefits it brings to passengers, Linx will make a decision on the wireless communication system being implemented on all trains (i.e. Oslo-Stockholm and Oslo-Gothenburg), as an integrated part of the Linx service concept.
