For Immediate Release
The conclusion indicated that the use of a system employing peroxyacetic acid in combination with a commercial seed washing apparatus achieved a consistent reduction of pathogens on artificially contaminated alfalfa seeds. The washing/sanitizing apparatus used in the trials was a version of the system Caudill Sprouting featured at ISGA. During a two-year period of the system's employment, sprout growers did not report any positives for Salmonella or E. coli O157:H7. Results were determined by Commercial l laboratories that tested the water in which the sprouts had been cleansed. The report titled, "Use of 1% Peroxyacetic Acid Sanitizer in an Air-Mixing Wash basin to Remove Bacterial Pathogens from Seeds," can be viewed or downloaded at [URL].
