American Society Of Pain Educators (ASPE) Announces Pain Education Training Program For Pharmaceutical Representatives

For Immediate Release

MONTCLAIR, N.J./EWORLDWIRE/Oct. 6, 2004 --- The American Society of Pain Educators has announced that it is developing a pain-education training program for pharmaceutical sales representatives as a result of recent events concerning analgesic medications. This program will support sales representatives and medical liaisons in providing the most up-to-date information regarding pain management therapies to prescribing clinicians and will offer representatives the opportunity to become Certified Pain Specialty Representatives (CPSRs).

"Prescribing clinicians look to sales representatives for quick access to important information. Training them with a fair-balanced curriculum will help them help busy practitioners stay current in a regulatory-challenged world," said B. Eliot Cole, MD, MPA, executive director of the American Society of Pain Educators.

The American Society of Pain Educators (ASPE) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the standards of clinical pain practice by providing training in pain management education and establishing credentialed pain educators (CPEs) as fixed assets within pain practices, hospitals, healthcare systems, and long-term care facilities. CPEs will function as in-house standing people resources dedicated to providing exemplary education in pain management, available and ready to work with clinical peers, patients and their families to translate care plans, extend the amount of service being provided to patients, orient patients to new medications and to monitor them for safety, efficacy, compliance, and toxicity.

The membership profile of this organization is comprised primarily of physicians, nursing professionals, physician assistants and health system pharmacists. Because of its inclusive membership profile, no one-pain discipline dominates the educational offerings or mission of the ASPE.
